IBUKU

Developing the use of bamboo in the modern world

Established in 2010, IBUKU founded by Elora Hardy. IBUKU is known for their community of bamboo homes. They build houses and design items made exclusively out of bamboo. She was inspired by the highly skilled local craftsmen as well as her parents’ talented jewelry designs. Elora grew up and was surrounded by many friendly artisans and women from the village and surrounding area. These artisans taught her to carve, paint and practice batik, an Indonesian style of dyeing whole cloth with wax. They are a team of young designers, architects and engineers exploring groundbreaking ways of using bamboo to build homes, hotels, schools, and event spaces in Bali, Indonesia. The company does not have a flagship product as it is dedicated to the construction of various and creative infrastructures.
