Founded in 1998, Threads of Life is a Bali-based company that is dedicated to sustaining the textile arts and improving the livelihoods of Indonesian weavers. With a mission to preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage and technical skills, Threads of Life works with over 1,000 women across 35 groups and 12 islands to empower them with the tools and knowledge necessary to produce exceptional textiles.
One of the company’s core values is the conservation of dye plant ecologies, which are associated with traditional rituals and mythology that perpetuate sustainable relationships with the earth. By supporting indigenous weavers and using eco-friendly materials and processes, Threads of Life is committed to promoting social, cultural, and environmental sustainability.
Through their work, the company aims to highlight the beauty and uniqueness of Indonesian textiles, while also supporting the weavers who create them. By preserving these ancient techniques and promoting the use of natural dyes, Threads of Life is contributing to the preservation of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and promoting a more sustainable future.
